Be Like Jesus

You may have seen these “Be smart, be like so and so” on multimedia lately. Most of them are funny things or annoyance that we all can identify with. As I was thinking about them, I thought about the kind of person I want to be and how “smart” I am. However, it dawned on me that there really is only one person we should be like. That person is Jesus! Jesus is the ultimate example that we have when it comes to behaviour. He was patient, loving, kind, forgiving, faithful…I could go on. You don’t have to read very many stories in the Bible to know that Jesus is the kind of dude that we should be looking towards. Of course being like Jesus doesn’t mean we have to move to Africa and start an orphanage; Jesus did his ministry in the area around where He was born. That means we can have influence on the people around us, our family, friends and people we interact with.

So let’s offer to help do the dishes and be helpful… like Jesus.

Let’s hold the door for strangers and be kind… like Jesus.

Let’s put our phones down and take notice of those around us… like Jesus.

Let’s offer a sympathetic ear rather than a harsh tongue and be patient… like Jesus.

There are many other things we can do, big or small to replicate the love of Jesus. And don’t discredit the small things, a simple smile can make a world of difference in a person’s life. For me personally I plan on making someone’s favourite cookies as a surprise for my family (hopefully they don’t read this post before I make them!). So I challenge you this week to see how many ways you can think of to be like Jesus and then act on them!

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14
